Popcorn, Popcorn

#5 Thing: Flicker

Here is my picture (it worked) and you may wonder why Popcorn? For me this picture is appropriate because, while I have worked for Smyrna Library I have made or help make a lot of popcorn. Reading Rally, Opening Day, Books to Birth, and the carnival in years past. Lots and Lots of the stuff have been handed out (now I'm hungry!).

Mel has told me to talk about how the Flicker account can be used in the library. I think it would be cool to have a slide show of pictures on the libraries web site. That shows different events we have had or advertise up coming events such as the author coming to visit for the Walter King Hoover adult reading program.

#4 LPLS online resource:

Facts on File On-Line: World Atlas

· The World Atlas provides more than 1,500 clear, full-color, reproducible maps and a wealth of photographs, flags, statistics and data on more than 200 countries, plus states, territories, regions, and continents. (From LPLS)

Ok, I have to admit I picked this for a reason, and his name is son. Son is working on a project about Nickel when he comes in and say’s “Mom, did you remember Brazil?” Brazil what about it, I don’t remember anything. A report is due and we have to find facts about the country Brazil. Son answered most of the questions, but we still have 20 to go. I went to LPLS at once and thought lets do two things at once his report and my Thing. Fact on File: The World Atlas provided information that was on his list of questions after typing in Brazil a list appeared with choices for the country.

Brazil
At-a-Glance Physical Features Weather & Climate Environment Government Overview Constitution Local Government History Overview Chronology Defense Economy Foreign Policy Media Ethnic Composition Languages Religions Further Resources

The list has information that is in an easy to read format, with drop down menus so you can click to other areas. The most important is the information is up to date; maps, flag, and pictures are really great and easy to access and print out. We only had two questions not found here and that was about animals. All in all a very good resource for the library to have, as a parent it’s great to be able to sit at home and get the information needed. I would recommend this site when a patron has a country they need info on anytime, because it answered so many questions and is up to date.

71/2 lifelong learning habits

Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind
I think this is the easy one for me I like having goals and meeting them. Making list of short goals or long goals and work through it then checking them off as I get them done.

Habit 2: Accept responsibility for your own learning
This one has been hardest for me it took me a long time to go back to school. To accept that if I didn't it would be my own fault. My only choice was to go to school so that I could say "I did it" with A LOT of help. Doing the Things has been a learning experience very challenging and fun. If you don't keep at life learning then you have no one to blame but yourself.
